Car Insurance Alfa Romeo (Car Insurance). Front brake very weak on ZX-9?Front brake very weak on ZX-9? I went out for a proper spin on my 2000 ZX-9 and I have noticed how weak the front brake is. The pads are nearly new and the system was bled recently. The hoses are also braided. When slowing from a high speed I can literally squeeze the lever to the bar and I am still not slowing down fast enough. I used to ride a CBR600F and that had awesome brakes. Is there anything I can do to improve the brakes? Someone said CBR900 brakes work better, wil they fit? Maybe a calliper strip down and rebuild is needed, replacing the seals and pistons. I had to do this on a ZZR1100 because the brakes weren't pulling up quick enough even though I fitted new pads, discs and hoses. Its not as extreme as it sounds and a mechanic can do it in half a day. (£200ish incl parts & labour) I think that the brake system has to be bled again. There is still air bubble trapped somewhere. Get a four foot section of clear plastic or rubber tubing. Attach one end to the bleeder valve, left caliper first, the other end into the reservoir, Open bleeder valve and pump level. Do not let the reservoir be empty, keep pumping until there is no air bubbles in the fluid coming out of the bleeder valve. Close the valve. Do the same drill to the right brake caliper. You need to be patient. If after this procedure does not solve the problem, then you need to open the master cylinder and look for leaks in the rubber end cap. Buy a master cylinder repair kit. @20U$. New pads need at least 50 miles of average use to bed in (unless they are race pads in which case you will never maintain working temperature). Alfa Romeo . How to Fix Moon Roof LeaksA leaking moon roof can easily put a damper in your day when it rains. The leak is normally caused by a blockage in a water drain in the moon roof. Fixing the leak may be costly if you take it to an auto mechanic, but you should be able to carry out the fix yourself without too much difficulty. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Towel Isopropyl alcohol Picture wire Bottled water Compressed air Step by Step : 1 Dampen a towel with isopropyl alcohol. Clean the rubber and the areas around the opening of the moon roof with the damp towel. 2 Inspect the corners of the sunroof for blockage by looking closely at each corner. Push picture wire down each opening on each of the four corners to clear each opening of any blockage. 3 Spray compressed air in each opening on each of the four corners. Pour water down each opening on each corner of the moon roof to check if the leak persists. If the leak still occurs, contact an auto mechanic.
Alfa Romeo . How to Fix a Gas Tank Leak in a CarIf you smell gas when you're in or around your car, chances are you have a gas leak. If upon visual inspection you see that the leak is coming from your gas tank, you need to fix it before you operate the car again. Not only is a leaky fuel tank costly due to the loss of fuel, it's a serious hazard that may lead to significant harm if the gas somehow ignites. Remember, this is a temporary fix --- you should have the car looked at as soon as possible by a qualified technician. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Open-end wrench Needlenose pliers Plastic container Socket wrench Screwdriver Jacks Sandpaper Metal file Emery cloth Fuel tank putty Primer Paint Step by Step : 1 Drain any remaining fuel out of the gas tank. If possible, allow the car to run until there's less than a gallon in the tank. Remove the gas line from the tank with an open-end wrench and needlenose pliers. Allow the remaining gas to drain into a plastic container. 2 Unscrew the electrical connector from the gas tank. This connector is usually located behind the back bumper of the vehicle. 3 Place jacks under the fuel tank and loosen the nuts that secure the straps to the body of the car. Remove the fuel pipe and lower the gas tank. 4 Sand the damaged area of the tank. File off all the rust and remove any dirt and debris. Finely sand the area with an emery cloth after the rough sanding has been completed. 5 Apply fuel tank putty to the affected area. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for mixing and application instructions. Allow to thoroughly dry for the recommended time and sand it down with emery paper. Prime and paint the tank to preserve the remaining metal and putty. 6 Connect the tank back to the car. Use jacks to jack it up into place. Tighten the nuts that strap the tank to the car's underbody. Attach the fuel line tubing and the electrical connector. 7 Test the tank by filling it with gasoline. Give it a few minutes, then check underneath for leaks. Tips & Warnings Failure to fix the fuel tank leak in a timely manner may result in serious injury if the gasoline ignites. Never drive a car with a fuel tank leak. *Part V: Helping Your Car Look Its Best Even if you have a car with a fiberglass (and therefore rustproof) body, the underbody is metal and, therefore, still the most sensitive area where rust is concerned. I have ridden in venerable old cars where the floorboards had rusted through so completely that you could see the road flash by under neath. And if rust attacks the frame, the car can be on its way to the Great Car Lot in the Sky before you know it. Dealing vOith any rust you find Okay, the worst has happened: You've found some rust spots on your car. Don't panic: You still have time to save the patient — unless the rust has gone too far. If the rust is underneath the car, on the underside of the body or bumpers where it doesn't show, or still confined to very small areas that can be touched up easily, you can probably take care of the matter yourself. Here's what to do: 1. Gently scrape away the rust with a single-edged razor blade or fine sandpaper. 1071

Use coarse sandpaper to grind the rust off large areas that are out of sight and not surrounded by paint. Always work inward from the edges to avoid extending the area by damaging the paint. Don't make a large job out of a small one by carelessly damaging the surrounding paint! Rust remover can make this job easier if you apply it after you get the crusty stuff off the surface. 2. After you've removed all the rust, apply some rust arrester to keep the rust from spreading further. Rust, like fire, is a form of oxidation. Products like Meta-Prep and Extend change the chemical nature of the rust and prevent it from further oxidizing the metal. You just brush or spray on most rust arrestors, wait for them to turn from white to black, and then wash them off thoroughly. (Be sure to follow the directions on the package.) 3. As soon as the area is dry, prime and paint it to protect the surface and restore it to its former beauty. See the upcoming "Priming and Painting" section for details. If you see large rust holes in the body of the vehicle, or if the frame has been badly weakened, get a couple of estimates from reliable body shops on what repairing the damage would cost. Then check those estimates against what your vehicle is worth by calling your local bank, insurance company, or loan Alfa Romeo . How much for a blown head gasket?

If you're considering having your vehicle undercoated (or doing it yourself), consider these points: If rust is already present on the underbody, undercoating simply locks the rust away, where it continues its insidious work unseen. So before you have your car undercoated, make sure that it's absolutely rust-free. If it isn't, have all the rust removed and a rust arrestor used to destroy any rust that may have been overlooked, and then have the undercoating applied. If your vehicle is fairly new and hasn't begun to rust, having it under-coated still may be a good idea, especially if you live in a snowy area. Make sure that they treat the underside of the car with a rust arrestor first, just to be sure, and that the undercoating won't void any warranties. Many new vehicles come with undercoating as part of the package; this option is fine and worth bargaining for. If undercoating is an "optional extra," you may find it cheaper to have the work done by an independent professional undercoating shop. Get an estimate of costs before you deal for the car so that you know where the best deals are, and make sure that the outside work won't void any warranties. Spray undercoatings designed for amateur use are probably better than nothing, but continue to watch closely for rust after applying them. If you decide to try one of these spray undercoatings, work in a well-ventilated area. Don't spray the undercoating (or anything else, for that matter) on any cables, pipes, or parts under the car that get hot; otherwise, they'll smell awful when the heat hits the undercoating. And before you use the stuff, remove every bit of rust and coat the surfaces with rust arrestor. Removing. By taking care of all these things at once, you can then put the final coats on all of them at the same time and have a car that looks wonderful. c* If the metal has been pushed in and hasn't been badly creased, you can try to pop the metal back into place with a rubber plunger (the kind they call a plumber's helper). Just moisten the edge of the rubber, place the plunger over the dent, establish suction by pressing down on the handle, and then pull it toward you. It may take a couple of tries before the metal pops back to normal. This technique works especially well on large expanses of metal, such as doors and fenders, if they have only been bent inward. u0 If you have small dents, you can attempt to hammer them out by placing a flat piece of metal (with a rag wrapped around it to protect the paint from scratching) on the outer side of the car and banging the dent from the underside with a flat-ended hammer. Be very careful to bang the underside of the dent only, and not the surrounding area, or you'll end up with a couple of new bumps to deal with. Work from the shallow sides of the dent toward the deeper areas and avoid overworking the metal, which stretches it. v* If you have very small dings or places where the paint has chipped, you can fill them in with glazing putty, which is very easy to handle. Use a putty knife to apply it, following the directions on the package, and then prime and paint the area. If the damaged area is larger than a very small, shallow ding, you need to resort to a plastic body filler. The next section tells you how to use one.
